When every diagnosis runs through you but no one sees you

Nearly every diagnosis in this hospital passes through my hands before a doctor ever says a word to the patient. I catch the cancer in the sample, the infection in the blood, and the patient never knows my name or that I existed. It's a strange loneliness, being essential to every single person and invisible to all of them.
