When leading well turns out to be about who you are

I spent the whole week polishing a strategy deck, and then my best engineer quit because of how I handled one tense meeting. Turns out my team watches who I am far more than any decision I announce. I thought leading was about making the right calls; it's starting to look like it's about being someone worth following, and that's a much harder thing.
