When lives depend on my design and I imagine every way it fails

I can design a device that people's lives will depend on, and I am good at it. But that means my whole job is imagining every way it could fail, every worst case, over and over. I lie awake picturing the one failure I did not think of, the patient on the other end, and the weight of all those what-ifs never fully sets down.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Lives depend on your design, so you carry the weight of imagining every way it could fail.
