I shaved another few seconds off the line today and the plant runs tighter than ever. I can optimize any process down to the decimal. But driving home I caught myself wondering whether a whole career spent making things efficient has actually made anything better for anyone. Faster isn't the same as good, and I can't stop seeing the gap.
