When my simple models work but the real ones won't balance

I can throw together a simple spreadsheet that gets the rough answer. But a full model where the three statements all connect and actually tie out, that's another world. Today mine didn't balance and I spent hours hunting for the one broken link, and never found it. Building a real model that holds together overwhelms me.
