When science is mostly slow, quiet, unremarkable work

People imagine science as breakthroughs and eureka moments, and my actual days are pipetting, labeling tubes, and waiting. A friend asked what I discovered this month and I laughed, because the honest answer is almost nothing you could point to. Lately I've been turning it over: if the meaning isn't in the big result, then it has to live somewhere in all this slow, quiet work, and I'm trying to find where.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Your work is slow and unremarkable, and you're searching for where its real meaning lives.

If this sounds familiar, the Library can help you find the bigger picture.
