When the emotional labor of the trade goes uncounted

I can win over almost any customer, calm the nervous ones, soften the angry ones, all while doing the actual job. But nobody counts that part. They see the pipe I fixed, never the twenty minutes I spent managing someone's panic, and I'm worn thin from work that doesn't show up on any invoice.
