When the evidence points away from what you hoped to find

I built this idea, I staked time and reputation on it, and now the data is quietly pointing somewhere else. Everything, my pride, my funding, the people watching, pulls me to explain the numbers away. Following the evidence where it actually goes might cost me, and I feel that pull hard.
