When the school system turns your students into scores

There's a kid in my third-period class who lit up when we read a poem out loud, and for a second I saw the whole person he is. Then the bell rings and I'm back to logging data points, hitting benchmarks, prepping them for a test that turns him into a number. I got into this to know children, and most days I'm just moving them through a machine.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

You want to really see each student, but the system treats them as scores and you as a machine.
