When the system grinds down the belief that brought you here

I went into criminal law believing I could make the system fairer, one case at a time. Fifteen years in, I've watched it grind down defendant after defendant while barely bending an inch, and some nights I can feel my own belief wearing thin. I'm fighting to hold onto the reason I started, because I'm scared of what I become if I let it go.
