When the systems talk fine until they cross and everything breaks

I can get the parts working together most of the time now. But then a failure shows up that lives in the seams, where the motor and the sensor and the code all point fingers at each other. Nobody's piece is wrong on its own, and I am the one standing there, no idea which side of the line the real problem is on.
