When the trade you mastered is dying before you can pass it on

I brought the boat in half empty again, same as most days this season. My father read these waters and his father before him, and I can read them too, but the fish just aren't there like they were. My son helps on weekends, and I don't know how to hand him a trade that might not last long enough to feed him.
