When you can animate the shots but not the feeling

I can knock out the standard shots now, the walks and the turns, and they look clean. But when a scene needs the character to actually feel something, to carry real weight, my work goes flat and I can see it. The gap between what's in my head and what my hands can pull off is the thing that keeps me up.
