I can light a scene so everything is visible and clean, no complaints there. But when the director says they want the room to feel lonely, or tense, or warm, I don't know how to make the light do that. I move the lamps around and it just looks lit, not felt.
More people experience this than they realize.
You can light a scene clearly, but using light to shape a real mood still eludes you.
