When you can test by hand but automating it overwhelms you

I can test the whole thing by hand, click through every path, catch the bugs. But the moment someone says to automate it, I freeze. Setting up the framework, writing tests that run themselves, it feels like a wall I can't climb, so I keep doing it all by hand and falling further behind.
