I stood in the doorway of a dying man's room while his daughter looked to me for something, and I didn't know how to be. If I let myself feel it I start to cry; if I don't, I go stiff and cold and clinical. I can't seem to find the human way to just be there.
More people experience this than they realize.
You can't find a way to be with the dying without either breaking down or going cold.
