When you have never thought about what your working life adds up to

Somebody at a retirement party asked me what I want my work to add up to, and I just stood there. Thirty years in and I've never once thought about it. I show up, I do the job, I go home. Now the question won't leave me alone, and I don't have the first idea how to answer it.
