I send the work off into the machine and it disappears, and I honestly have no idea if it ever helps anyone. Somewhere down the line there's supposed to be a person my effort touches, but I've never seen their face or heard a word back. The line between what I do all day and whether it matters has been broken so long I can't feel it at all anymore.
More people experience this than they realize.
You never see the effects of your work, so you can't feel whether it matters.
