This morning I sat with a manager helping him plan a layoff, and this afternoon I looked one of those workers in the eye knowing what's coming. I'm supposed to guide the bosses and follow the rules, but those same rules keep hurting the people I got into this to help. I spend all day pulled between two sides, and it leaves me drained and unsure whose side I'm even on.
