When your work only ends up serving someone else's profit

I followed the thread once, all the way out, to see what my work actually serves. It ended at a number on a spreadsheet, the company's profit, and nowhere near anything I'd care about outside this building. I'm genuinely good at helping a balance sheet, and I can't find the part that connects to me.
