When you're accountable for everything but in charge of no one

On paper I own the outcome, but not one person on the team actually reports to me. I spend my days nudging, persuading, and gently begging people to do things I can't tell them to do. When it works I feel like I fooled everyone, and when it stalls I feel like a fraud pretending to lead.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

You're accountable for the results but have power over no one, and it makes you feel like a fraud.

If this sounds familiar, the Library can help you find the bigger picture.
