How support groups navigate different rates of vision loss progression

A group of us met in a support group for people with macular degeneration and we've become close friends, but now one person is progressing much faster than the rest of us and it's bringing up everyone's fears about our own futures. Our friend is becoming isolated because spending time with them reminds us of what's coming, and we all feel terrible about it but don't know how to handle the anxiety.
