When couples navigate voice changes after throat surgery

My spouse had surgery for throat cancer six months ago and is cancer-free but their voice is permanently different and they've become withdrawn from social situations. I want to encourage them to reconnect with people but I also see how much they struggle with their changed voice and I don't know how to support them without pushing too hard.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Recovery from throat surgery affects not just the patient but their partner's understanding of how to provide support without overstepping boundaries around identity and social comfort.
