Scenario

When parent and teenage child train martial arts together with shifting skill levels

My teenage son started training in the same martial arts school as me and he's progressing faster than I am, which I'm proud of but also struggling with because I introduced him to this and now I feel inadequate when we spar together. He can sense my discomfort and it's making both of our training weird.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Natural adolescent development is challenging parental identity and creating awkwardness in shared practice.
