My hiking group experienced a serious injury on our last trip and we're all processing it differently — some want to get more safety training, others want to stick to easier trails, and a few seem to want to pretend it didn't happen. We haven't talked about it directly but I can feel us pulling apart and I don't know how to bring up that we might all be scared in different ways.
More people experience this than they realize.
A community is fragmenting because they haven't found a way to honor different responses to shared trauma while maintaining their connection.
