Our book club started as a way for five of us to read philosophy together but it's turned into a place where everyone just shares personal stories triggered by the readings instead of actually wrestling with the ideas, and I don't know if I'm being elitist for wanting more rigor or if we've lost the original purpose.
More people experience this than they realize.
A collective intended for shared inquiry has become something else entirely, and the tension between what it was meant to be and what it has become needs addressing.
