Our neighborhood group has been planning community events for years, but we recently realized that almost everything we organize is inaccessible to several residents with mobility issues, and now we're split between people who want to completely overhaul our approach and others who think we should just 'do better next time.' The real issue is that we've never examined what inclusion actually means to us as a group versus what we think it should mean.
More people experience this than they realize.
You're discovering that good intentions aren't enough, and the group needs to wrestle with what genuine inclusion requires versus what feels comfortable or familiar.
