When single parent support groups become performative

The other single parents at school and I started a support group that was supposed to be about practical help and honest conversation, but it's turned into a competition about who's handling it better and whose ex is worse. None of us are saying what we actually think about the hard parts because we're all afraid of being judged by people who are supposed to understand.

What we've seen

A group seeking genuine connection has unconsciously created conditions where vulnerability feels unsafe, leaving everyone more isolated than before.
