When arts groups struggle between tradition and evolving artistic identity

My choir has been together for seven years and we're mostly people in midlife, and lately there's been tension because some of us want to perform more challenging, socially conscious music that reflects our evolving values while others want to stick with the traditional repertoire that feels safe and familiar. We all joined for the music but now it feels like we're having a deeper conversation about who we are as a group and what we want our art to say about us at this stage of our lives.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A creative community must navigate between maintaining established identity and allowing for growth that reflects members' changing perspectives and values.
