When creative partnerships develop unintended hierarchies

My creative partner and I started this project as equals but they've become the public face of what we do while I do more of the behind-the-scenes work, and now people assume they're the real creator and I'm the assistant. We never explicitly decided on these roles but somehow we've ended up here and I don't know how to change it without seeming petty or demanding.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two collaborators who intended equality are finding that external perception and internal dynamics have created an imbalance neither of them chose.
