When teams face return-to-office mandates disguised as collaboration

My department has been remote for two years and productivity is fine, but our director wants everyone back in the office and is framing it as 'collaboration' and 'culture' when it's really about his comfort level with managing people he can't see. Those of us who've built our lives around remote work feel like we're being gaslit, but we can't figure out how to organize a response without seeming insubordinate.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Authority is being exercised through euphemism, making it nearly impossible for those affected to respond honestly to what's actually happening.
