When workplace equity efforts fail to address systemic patterns

My department is supposedly committed to equity but every time we hire someone, promote someone, or allocate resources, the same patterns play out and somehow the white men end up ahead. The rest of us see it happening but we all respond differently - some fight it directly, some work around it, some have given up - and we're not united enough to actually change anything.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group recognizes a pattern they cannot change individually, but their different strategies for coping are preventing collective action.
