When social justice partners navigate identity differences in their shared work

My organizing partner and I work on racial justice but we're from different backgrounds and there are moments in our activism where what feels empowering to me feels like performative allyship to them, and vice versa. We've never figured out how to navigate these differences without it becoming about who's more authentic or politically correct.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Your different lived experiences create fundamentally different relationships to the work you're doing together, and you haven't found a way to honor both perspectives without falling into competitive authenticity.
