When partners from different postcolonial backgrounds disagree on raising children

My partner and I are both first-generation immigrants but from different colonized regions, and we're struggling with how to raise our daughter because we have completely different ideas about which cultural practices to preserve and which colonial impositions to reject. We keep having the same fight about language, religion, and even what foods to cook, and I'm realizing we've never actually talked about what decolonization means to each of us personally.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people are discovering that shared experiences of colonization don't automatically create shared visions of cultural recovery.
