When couples disagree about preserving cultural identity versus assimilation for their children

My partner and I are both from formerly colonized countries but we've ended up arguing about whether sending our kids to the international school here is 'selling out' or being practical, and it's bringing up all this stuff about what we're trying to preserve versus what opportunities we want them to have. We keep talking past each other because we each think the other doesn't understand what we're sacrificing.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people are discovering that decolonization means different things to them when it comes to concrete choices about their family's future.
