My partner grew up here but I immigrated as a child, and when we talk about what this country means to us we're having completely different conversations — they see flaws in something they love unconditionally and I see possibilities in something I'm still deciding whether I belong to. We want to raise our kids with some sense of national pride but we can't agree on what that should look like.
