My research partner and I are both political scientists studying American democracy, but they approach it as a system to defend and I approach it as a system to interrogate — and it's affecting everything from our methodology to how we present findings. We want to contribute meaningful scholarship about this country but we can't align on whether our academic duty is patriotic stewardship or critical examination.
