When research partners navigate external assumptions about expertise and leadership

My research partner and I are both women of color but from different backgrounds, and when we present our work together, people often assume she's the lead because she fits more conventional academic expectations. We haven't found a way to address it that doesn't put her in an impossible position.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Collaborators must develop strategies for addressing bias that affects them differently while maintaining their partnership and professional standing.
