When teams avoid addressing gendered patterns in emotional labor distribution

My team lead keeps assigning the emotional labor of difficult conversations to me and the other women on our team, while the men get to focus on 'just the technical work.' When I brought it up in our retrospective, everyone got uncomfortable and said we shouldn't make it about gender, but the pattern is undeniable.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group cannot acknowledge a systemic pattern that some members clearly see and others cannot or will not recognize, leaving those affected to carry both the burden and the silence.
