When creative groups develop unspoken hierarchies

My writing group has been meeting for three years and we've gotten close, but there's this unspoken hierarchy based on who's published what and how much, and it's affecting how we give feedback and whose work gets the most attention. We started as peers supporting each other's creative work but now it feels like some people's opinions matter more than others and we can't talk about it directly.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A community formed around mutual support discovers that external validation has created internal stratification they never acknowledged.
