My writing partner and I are collaborating on a book about our shared cultural background but we keep disagrepting about how to write about colonization and trauma without either romanticizing our culture or feeding into stereotypes that harm our community. We both want to tell the truth but we have different ideas about what truths are safe to tell and who we're writing for.
