Scenario

When your advocacy team's political identity gets challenged by different lived experiences

Our advocacy team is mostly second and third generation immigrants working on immigrant rights, and we just hired someone who's recently arrived and undocumented, and suddenly all our conversations about messaging and priorities feel different and some of us are defensive about having our political analysis questioned. We all care about the same issues but we're realizing we've been talking about them from a place of relative safety that not everyone on the team shares.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group discovers that adding a voice with different proximity to the issues they work on reveals assumptions about political identity and strategy they hadn't examined.
