Our band formed in high school around being the weird kids who didn't fit in, but now we're in our twenties and getting some attention, and two members want to professionalize and 'grow up' our image while two of us want to stay true to our outsider roots. Every decision about our music and presentation becomes this fight about who we're supposed to be now versus who we were then.
More people experience this than they realize.
Recognition is forcing them to choose between their foundational outsider identity and the possibilities that come with mainstream acceptance.
