Our book club chose to read about poverty and inequality but the conversation keeps getting dominated by people who want to intellectualize about 'policy solutions' while those of us who've actually experienced poverty are trying to share personal stories that make others uncomfortable. We're supposed to be friends but these discussions are revealing how different our lived experiences really are.
