When community spaces struggle with participation-based power dynamics

Our community garden has become a place where the people with more gardening knowledge and more time end up making most of the decisions, even though we started with this vision of it being egalitarian. The people who work there the most feel like they should have more say, and the people who can't be there as much feel shut out.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Egalitarian ideals often clash with practical realities about who has time, knowledge, and capacity to contribute.
