How community spaces can exclude their original members through growth

Our community garden has become really popular and now there's a waiting list, but the people who can afford to maintain elaborate plots and show up to all the volunteer days are mostly the newer, wealthier residents. The long-time community members who started this garden are getting pushed out by our own success and nobody wants to admit it's happening.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Success and formalization of grassroots initiatives can inadvertently replicate the exclusion patterns they were created to address.
