Our community garden has been volunteer-run for five years but now the city wants us to formalize with bylaws and a board structure, and the people who've been doing most of the work are worried about losing the informal relationships that make this place special. Some folks think structure will help us grow and be more equitable, while others think it will bureaucratize something that works because it's organic.
