When community groups include conflicting experiences of violence and incarceration

Our community group includes people who've lost family members to violence and people who've had family members incarcerated, and we can't find common ground on whether mass incarceration makes communities safer or less safe. The pain on both sides is real but we're talking past each other about what justice and safety actually mean.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Shared trauma does not automatically create shared analysis when people have experienced different forms of systemic harm.
