When community groups disagree about political engagement

Our community mutual aid network started during the pandemic to support unemployed workers, but now some of the original organizers want to expand into electoral politics while others think we should stay focused on direct support. We're worried that taking political positions will alienate people who need help, but we also see how policy changes could prevent the crises we're constantly responding to.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The relationship between immediate aid and systemic change is creating philosophical divisions about the group's purpose.
