When environmental coalitions face jobs versus health tensions

Our environmental justice coalition includes groups with very different constituencies and when we try to prioritize which fights to take on, it becomes clear that what looks like environmental racism to some of us looks like economic opportunity to others. We all want healthy communities but we're stuck because we can't agree on what that means or how to get there when jobs and pollution seem to come together.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Environmental justice becomes environmental conflict when communities must choose between economic survival and ecological health.
